The Olam story began in 1989 with cashews sourced from Nigeria. Today our dedicated cashew teams continue to work in farming communities in Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Ghana and Mozambique. We have built strong relationships with our suppliers who are large growers, cooperatives and local trader networks.

Through our flagship sustainability programme, the Olam Livelihood Charter, we have been running economic, social and environmental impact programmes for 7 years in Africa and Asia. Today we are supporting around 62,000 farmers in Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, and Vietnam. Because we work with the farmers and cooperatives directly, we can also offer our customers fully traceable Organic and Fairtrade cashews.



We have more than 15 cashew processing and packaging facilities across Asia and Africa. These are located in India, Vietnam, Côte d’Ivoire, Mozambique and Nigeria.

Our 5 facilities in Vietnam are SMETA, BRC, Halal and Kosher certified and make Olam one of the largest cashew processors in the world.

Through investment in technology, our cashew processing facilities in Vietnam have reduced process times, minimised control points, and incorporated precision grading and sorting to deliver consistent quality, customised grades and ingredients.

We employ more than 1,500 people from local communities at our Vietnam facilities, many of whom are women. In 2019 we were named one of Vietnam’s best employers by global professional services firm Aon as part of their Best Employers global certification. Following on from this we were named among the best companies to work for by HR Asia Magazine in 2018.


Value Added Processing

At our Vietnam facilities we offer customised solutions which include cashew pieces and paste, pasteurisation and dry and oil roasting, seasoning.

Shipping & Distribution

Our standard pack type is 50lb vacuum-packed cartons. Transit from Vietnam to Australia is approximately 22 days.

Harvest and Market Dynamics

In Indian and Vietnam, there are several harvests between mid-February and May. In East Africa harvest falls between October and January, in West Africa cashews are harvested between March and May.

January to March is normally a period of low traded volume. The main buying period is March to July, during harvest when supply of Raw Cashew Nut (RCN) determines the price of kernels. Seasonal lows in price tend to be July and August which coincides with the peak volume of RCN landing in Vietnam from India and the West Africa.
